Also known as the Moon, Luna is the only natural satellite of Earth and the first world to be colonized. It has a new atmospheric pressure of 0.8 atmospheres and a mean temperature of 25.1 °C (77.3 °F).
Humanity first set foot on Luna (a lifeless temperate S-Class world at the time) on 1969 marking the first extraterrestrial celestial body landed on by humans. The missions lasted from 1969 to late 1972 with 12 astronauts walking on the surface. Human did not set foot on the moon again up until the Orion III mission in 2024.
Luna’s first colony was Fort Jupiter. Settled by American and Japanese scientists in 2032 near the lunar south pole, this fort was the beginning of humanity’s settlement of the Sol System. The next colony was a Chinese colony built near a rich deposit of Helium III.
Thanks to the ever increasing popularity of Luna, more missions were sent by many major nations. Soon large domed cities existed.
In 2142 a major corporation in Fort Jupiter, by this time the largest domed city on Luna, was inspired by recent terraforming projects on both Venus and Mars to try the same there ,it took them a few years to convince the terraforming commitee.
They began by diverting many comet nuclei (or iceteroid) towards Luna from beyond Pluto’s orbit. When the comets were at a good distance from the lunar surface, the comets were carefully detonated. Shards of the icy core fell all around the lunar equator. Within a few hours the first semblance of the lunar atmosphere was formed.
More comets were thrown at Luna which sped up the lunar day to a little over a day. The axial tilt had also been changed by the bombardment to give the future earthlike moon seasons. With the creation of a new atmosphere Luna glowed more brightly. It took animals on Earth a while to get used to this new change.
Genetically engineered organisms were released to breathe out oxygen and to create soil for future plants. Bioengineers went crazy creating entirely new plants and animals for the new biosphere, floating gas bags, animals that resembled manta rays that could float in the air, spindly trees with roots one could walk under etc.
By 2367, Luna was a temperate E-Class world and could easily be mistaken for an alien world as barely anything living on it resembled Earth life anymore. Because of the low lunar gravity the atmosphere is constantly being replenished.
The lunar population is currently around 6.2 billion. Many cities have grown large and taller than any in the Sol System. Despite being so close to Earth, Luna is the most alien world in the Sol System. The early went through so many genetic changes that their descendants have since forgotten which nationality their ancestors were.
Most Lunarians, like the inhabitants of Mercury, have wings, but unlike Mercurians, are now born with them. Like birds on Earth, parents teach their children to fly by pushing them out of one of the taller trees on the moon. Unlike their terrestrial counterparts, Lunarians are always careful to keep watch over their children.
The climate of Luna resembles something like an exotic, cloudy and wet Florida. There are no deserts on the moon thanks to constant circulating air cell. The plants and animals of the moon are as alien to terrestrial life as terrestrial life is to Lunarians.
Ocean waves move slower and thanks to the new tides the waves on Luna are much higher than those on Earth.
The weather is cloudier and warmer than on Earth thanks to more greenhouse gasses.
