The O'odham Space Sector is a region in space ranging 10 light-years stretching from the barycenter of the O'odham System. It is amongst the least-populated space sectors which holds its own seat in the Confederacy of Humanity senate.

History Edit

The sector is located about 7,500 light-years away from Earth and is located somewhat above the galactic plane, leading to its late exploration. There is also little spacemarks to attract pioneers into this area, due to the lack of nebula (which attracts visitors to near Gamos Nebulae or Carina Nebula) or even a F-class star.

Prior to 7300 the system was essentially a no man's land, with no native civilizations or sentient beings. On 7352 some colonists decided to leave for the sector's general direction, but a midway plan change meant that the system is to remain uninhabited for the next 900 years.

On 8291, a mining corporation did a geological survey of a system located about 32 light-years away from O'odham, allowing basic astronomical measurements to be conducted. The name O'odham came from the chief astronomer involved in the project, and the stars were ranked according to their luminosity (and was named accordingly). This was the first human observation of the area, and will remain the only one a further 900 years.

On 9128, during the heights of the First Galactic War civilians on a planet invaded by the Giokans warped into the sector by pure chance. In desperation to escape the starships and combat vessels, the captain of the cargo ship had warped at the first opportunity he had (without aiming at anything). Some of these refugees arrived at the system Kocudpo'Odham (26-O'odham), which had life on one of its D-class planets. Renaming the system Kodahk, they proceeded to land on the planet, christened Ratyi, and colonized its iron-rich sands.

Completely untouched by the rest of the war nor the destructive Second Galactic War, the refugee colony's economy and population slowly grew despite of its relative isolation from other colonies. Exploration of the sector was not prioritized, though, since the populace had few scientific personnel nor a significant high education system.

On 9977, after the end of the Second Galactic War, the eccentric billionaire Tom Caya went to Ratyi with a full construction crew and began to establish a wormhole between Milky Way and Rentxo galaxies. In the process of the construction, Ratyi's outermost, eccentric asteroid moon was converted into energy in order to rip an opening in spacetime. It was eventually completed on December 9989, but the resources required to sustain the wormhole indefinitely had nearly exhausted Tom Caya's riches.

"It was totally worth it, dude. How many guys can walk into a party and say 'Hey, I made a wormhole to a galaxy far, far away!'?"
- Tom Caya, in a 9992 interview

The access to a new, unexplored galaxy prompted the further colonization of the sector. Within three years, the population of the sector quadrupled as immigrants came and went through the wormhole. Scientific interest in the area fluorished and the colony on Ratyi continued to expand exponentially.
